Well designed and easy to use

The Giottos MT8350 is the best designed of the four tripods I have owned. Contrary to the original Amazon description, the MT series uses twist lock collars, not lever locks. While I always thought I preferred lever locks, I find the Giottos SDL twist locks are actually faster to use than levers. With the leg in the closed position, the three twist locks nest together so that you can grasp all three and open them at one time with only a 1/8th turn. Twist locks are also lighter than levers so they slightly reduce the weight of the tripod overall.The movable center column is a great feature and I can quickly set up the column in the horizontal position. With the legs spread to their widest of three positions, your camera can be only about 10.5" from the ground. All the adjustments possible with this tripod make it especially versatile.The whole tripod fits easily in carry-on luggage and is remarkably light. It is more than sturdy enough to support my Nikon dslr and 16-85mm lens. With a long telephoto, I would probably attach my camera bag to the hook on the center column for extra weight, particularly in windy or unsteady conditions. That's typical of carbon fiber tripods.A few added features: with the supplied short column, you can connect your camera directly to the tripod plate and shoot in the landscape or portrait position--no tripod head required. The tripod also comes with both a carry strap and a very high quality carry case. If you're looking for a well made, well designed tripod that's easy to tote all day and still gets the job done, I recommend you check out the MT 8350.

I rarely write reviews, but this tripod really exceeded my expectations and I figured I had to write something. I am a long time Gitzo tripod user and have not had much exposure to many other support systems out there. My logic was you get what you pay for and that everything else was a cheap knock off... I have to say this Giottos tripod is so well made and the design is so innovative that and in many ways it is better than the Gitzo's that I have.I love the fact that the tripod comes with the tools, spirit level, leg padding, tripod bag, spiked feet and center column. Where as with my Gitzo tripod I had to purchase many of these things seperately from the legs itself. I would easily spend more on these Gitzo "upgrades" than I would have on purchasing this Giottos tripod. What a bargain!As far as customer support goes, Giottos could not be any worse than Gitzo's which is just plain non-existent. The few times I have tried to contact Gitzo for support it was a horrible experience, which left me with issues that are still unresolved to this day...which in all honesty is what pushed me to look at other brands out there for my needs and I'm glad I did.I honestly can't say enough good things about this tripod...it does everything I want or need from it, and the fact it costs a fraction of what a Gitzo does is a major plus as well. If you are on the fence, then put your worries aside and buy this tripod. Trust me when I say you will not be disappointed.
