Ultimate Sportsman watch: great value and style - designed for active use

I was a little surprised by the other reviews since the features they found lacking are related to a dress watch and not a sportsman watch. This watch has the correct features designed exactly for a specific usage type with a design aesthetic that is exactly what it is supposed to be. I received this watch as a gift over 2 trouble-free years ago. The watch is from Stuhrling's Epiphany collection, Apocalypse series, and Big Date product in a Black surgical steel casing. It is a sportsman's watch and what you should think about when consider purchasing it is "What are the desirable features for a sportsman's watch" and are those that what I am wanting or needing?The desirable Sportsman's features for this watch are:* it designed as a larger watch and casing so it can be easily read at a glance with large numbers and very reflective markers - it does not have a lot of features like day of the week since that makes it less readable (and those are dress watch or chronograph features)* it is very sturdy and rugged so it's therefore heavier, because this watch is larger with very solid construction it may feel heavy to a casual or dress wearer,* it DOES have Super-LumiNova "glow in the dark" hands but to power them you don't want to keep the watch darkened or out of the light excessively (such as under a dress shirt sleeve) if luminescence is needed,* it is water resistant to 330 feet and can easily withstand casual moisture - such as playing golf in the rain,* it has a silicon rubber watch band which is desirable if you are active since sweating does not make the band slick or discolored - including staining your wrist when wet,* it has double locking mechanisms on the band so it does not unlock or slip off easily - it requires conscious effort to unlock so that this watch does not just accidentally come off after active wrist or arm movements,* it has a scratch resistant sapphire crystal (the most expensive and durable crystal) which is 3X harder than mineral crystals and 20X harder than acrylic crystals,* it has a black PVD matte coating on the stainless steel casing - however the coating on the edges of the bezel can wear through over time and consistent use - but I find that adds to the rugged overall look of the watch so it's not too problematic,* It has an angled flange with second/minute markers that are mostly red hashes with the 5, 10, 15, etc. hashes in white to make viewing somewhat easierIn terms of style, this watch is primarily made of stainless steel so it has a more rugged aesthetic. In terms of the detailing, the details are pure stainless steel and therefore are going to be reflective (not stained or aged) so the screws around the bezel are, by design, made to be noticed when compared against the matte black bezel. The stainless steel minute markers on the watch face are polished so that they are even more reflective than the screws on the bezel.Ultimately this is a very attractive sportsman watch that has enough style that it can double as a dress watch when needed, even though its primary design, purpose and function is for sportsman usage. The matte black and stainless steel detailing combination has been prevalent in fashion accessories for the last twenty years and is still very prevalent in men's' accessories today. While the style is not entirely timeless, it certainly should be acceptable for the life of the watch.If you need stop watch, timer and split second timing features this is not the sportsman watch for you and you should consider looking at a chronograph watch instead.

Good value for your money.

stuhrling original sport watch. Good value for your money. However, it is big and rather limited in its features. For instance, no glow-in-the dark hands, no day of the week etc.
