Wonderful, once you figure it out
By Book dallier
Vega is wonderful. I'll go on about why in a second. But first, a bit about how to use it correctly, because if you don't use it correctly you're quite likely *not* to think it's wonderful (unless you have lots of experience with meal replacement powders, or a very high taste tolerance). If you are an expert on meal replacement powders, drink them a lot, and/or can tolerate gross tastes, these tips will probably not be helpful to you...so feel free to skip to the middle of this review, where I start discussing the product's benefits. Otherwise:The most important advice I can give most people about this product is *not* to follow the instructions on the canister. If you mix this with water alone, as I did, you are likely to gag and never want to drink this again (an exception might be the Berry flavor, which I have tried, although never in water alone--I don't dare since my first and only experience with Vega+Water--but I suspect it might be drinkable. None of the other flavors are drinkable in water alone, I can tell you that for sure.)Very little effort seems to have been made with this product to give it a good taste. It truly is a high-performance nutritional/athletic product, and only that. Since I'm not a pro athlete nor a generally nutrition-obsessed person, I naively expected that the product would taste passable...you know, for marketing reasons. It does not; in water it tastes horrible. How horrible? Kind of like mud plus grass in liquid form. However, the following things are true:1) The bad taste is primarily because this product contains nothing but hardcore healthy ingredients. There don't seem to be any fillers, much sweetener, etc., and certainly no cheap or--God forbid--unhealthy ingredients. You are drinking pure healthiness here.2) If you mix it into certain juices (stir thoroughly!), or add in a smoothie, it is not that bad. I have had success with apple juice and limeade as well as Odwalla Pomegrand. Of course, some people won't want the extra carbs of juice (and especially not the extra sugar of limeade), but at least for me, the juice is absolutely necessary...and you're still getting a pretty darn healthy drink, on balance, because Vega is so incredibly healthy itself.I find I need about 12 ounces of juice per scoop. Sounds like a lot, but this is the only way I am able to drink it enjoyably. YMMV.3) You get used to it. After my first time drinking Vega, when I had it with water alone, I thought I would have to throw away or send back the rest of the container. It was just that awful. But, lucky for me, I gave it another chance, figured out how to use it properly...and have been able to drink it every morning for the past nine months without a struggle. I won't say I crave the taste, but I do actually enjoy my morning drink, and miss it when I can't have it.Now for why I gave this product five stars, even though it is so weird tasting:There is everything your body needs in here and more. I have no doubt that a human being could survive on this alone and be healthy. A few more carbs might be good, but this takes care of...-All essential vitamins and minerals. There are some you might want still want to supplement (for example, some more DHA, Vitamin D, or methyl-B12, etc., depending on your individual needs)...but this absolutely has the equivalent of a decent multivitamin in it.-Broad-spectrum protein, which is super-important for vegetarians and (especially) vegans, who can be short on some amino acids in their diets.-Lots of fiber, so that there is no further need for most people to supplement with anything else in this area.-Vegan probiotics, which are fantastic for anyone with digestive issues, anyone taking antibiotics, and basically everyone else too. Plus, extra digestive enzymes are added here, so this should be really fantastic for anyone wanting to give their digestive system a boost.-Tons of added antioxidants from berries--the label lists blueberry, blackberry, raspberry, cherry, and marion berry. You can't taste them in most of the flavors, but it's good to know that their extra nutrition is in there.-Lots of EFAs/Omega 3s. The calorie breakdown of this product is Zone Diet-like, with 40% of calories from protein, 30% from good fats, and 30% from carbohydrates.-Inulin from chicory root, which has a bunch of putative health benefits (it adds soluble fiber, is a diuretic, and is supposed to help with digestion and blood sugar levels...as well as cholesterol levels, aiding liver and gallbladder function, helping improve the absorption of calcium, helping to break down fats, possibly aiding healing, killing internal parasites, etc...I could go on. Some of it is speculation, but there is a long history of folk use of this ingredient, as well as some legitimate medical use today. For pregnancy it's probably a no-no, however.)-Organic maca root, which is great for hormonal balance for both sexes. Lots of supposed medical benefits of this one too.-Japanese chlorella, which contains chlorophyll and something called Chlorella Growth Factor, which is also supposed to be great for a lot of reasons (immune, detox, supposed to promote "good" cell growth and repair)...(re: all of the above--I'm not a medical professional, and most of this is just based on reading about these ingredients on the Internet--but there does seem to be a lot of research and support from many sources for many of these ingredients for general nutritional uses as approximated above.)If it sounds healthy, that's because it is! Really, really healthy. So healthy that I think it's worth the price, worth the taste...everything. I haven't noticed things changing dramatically in my life because of this, but I didn't expect to...and I know it is doing great things for my body. That is enough for me, and I would endorse it wholeheartedly for everyone who can afford it.Cost: about $3.20 per 2-scoop serving when you buy this size of container, at Amazon's discount price, in this flavor (Natural). One scoop plus juice is enough for me for breakfast; two scoops (a full serving) per day would probably be optimal for health. The other flavors are more expensive and, IMO, unnecessary, as they don't improve the taste when it is mixed in juice (I have tried them all). If you're going to be drinking it in water, then it might be worth getting Berry, but otherwise I would highly suggest Natural. (At the list price of $75, it comes out to $4.41 per serving, so best to get it on Amazon.)I think the price is well worth it, if you can swing it. Not worth going into debt for, but definitely worth making some sacrifices for, as it is, in my opinion, one of the best things you can do for your body. All this, and it's green-friendly too! ...If you've read all the way down to here, it is probably time to buy it.

The best whole meal replacement for anyone & especially for high performance athletes
By Philip Anderson
This is real, premium, organic whole food and a whole-meal replacement - it is a meal in itself. If you want something lighter -like a mini-smoothie for light breatkfast or dessert- then use much less than the stated serving size.I've been taking Vega for 3 years now as a tonic and nutritional insurance when too busy to prepare proper meals. From the start I felt an improvement in my energy level, posture and outlook which had degraded somewhat from many years behind a desk in office work.My lifestyle is rigourous intellectually and I hike 1-2 hours daily yet I need only 1/3 to 1/2 scoop of Vega as a base for a smoothie for a whole meal --that doubles or triples the "17 servings per container", which is really cheap for a complete, enhanced, delicious and health-giving meal.If you're an athlete of larger physique you may want 1/2 to 1.0 scoop -experiment with it. The creator of Vega, Brendan Brazier, says on his website that his recovery time after a triathlon is half that of his professional competitors - believe it! And put Vega to the test.Try adding fruit, raw leafy greens (Kale has lots more vit C, Cal & Mag than oranges), soy or nutmilk for increased smoothness, plus pumpkin-pie spice or cinnamon for flavor -believe it or not, it tastes great even with the raw greens and green color (healthy chlorophyll). I feel satisfied for 4 to 6 hours after a Vega-based smoothie and my energy level and alertness are optimal -no lethargy or blood sugar swing.Brendan has made a great contribution to the quality of life of humanity, the earth and the animals - the whole organic plant-based diet is the diet of the new paradigm of sustainable living and loving stewardship of the Earth. This diet has now been proven by the people who write medical science -Cornell and Oxford Universities- to prevent and reverse heart disease, some cancers and type II diabetes (see "The China Study" by Colin Campbell). Brendan has made it even more fun and easy to take up this benign and benevolent diet for those living a fast-paced, a high-performance lifestyle, whether intellectually or physically.

Vegan supplement
By Capt. K
I use Vega as a nutrition supplement. I don't know of any better product. It is a little sandy if mixed with water only. I use 20 grams with 8 ounces of water 3 times daily. I have diabetes and found it impossible to maintain a vegan diet without medication. Getting my protein from fruits and vegetables required too many carbs. This product is perfect for my situation. I get 26 grams of protein with only 16 carbs. It gives me the fiber, fat, and all the supplements I need and allows me to maintain my vegan diet without the harmful and annoying side effects of my medication. Thank you Branden Brazier.
