5saving energy
By Lombard Street
I haven't bought one yet, but will choose this one when I need.I believe the more popular solution of relying on an inverter to charge a laptop in a car is really an unnecessary waste of energy, because you will be converting DC to AC and then back to DC again. Even if you just lose 20% during each conversion step, you are wasting (1-80%*80%=)36% energy; and we are talking about draining juice from a car battery with limited capacity in order to power a 60-80W device.I have a Lenovo laptop, but Lenovo doesn't sell car power adapters. There must be good reasons for that. I suspect that charging a vulnerable laptop with sometimes volatile car batteries may not do any good to the laptop's working life, and understandably Lenovo, or any laptop makers, won't want people to charge their laptops this way.If my guess were in the money, then I would certainly focus on safety when choosing a car laptop adapter. I don't know anything about Lind, but I suspect that if they are making the adapters for the military and the cops, reliability must be their main selling point. If any of you know more about this product, please contribute your 20 cents. As I said, I haven't made my purchase yet. In particular, I am interested to know:(1) Are there any good reasons for using an inverter as an intermediary to tap the 12V DC car power for a DC-powered laptop?(2) Is the >$100 price tag for this product really worth it?Thanks!

5Turn your front seat into an office with a Lind adapter
By Medical Marketing Maven
This is the third Lind auto adapter I've owned - one for a Dell, one for a T42, and this one for my T61p.There is absolutely nothing to say about Lind adapters. They simply work. You plug them into a cigarette lighter socket in a car, or a seat power socket in the expensive seats of some airlines, and you work effortlessly.I have both a Blackberry and Verizon broadband wireless for my laptop. The Lind lets me pull into a service area and answer emails, read attachments - and never worry about running down laptop batteries.Trust Lind.
