5Solid as a rock
By Ole fart
Received this a couple days ago and have taken it out twice already..both times in stiff breezes..strong enough to blow my hat off.. Had a sizable load in my D300 with the 80-400 VR lens using the Kirk tripod collar replacing the collar the lens comes with. The tripod performed excellently..only slight vibration during the strongest gusts..Didn't lose a single shot and had the VR off the entire time..I bought this for handling heavier than normal loads and it did better than expected..Only one weakness...the center column doesn't serve horizontally for macro photography..Part of me wishes I'd bought theMT-9371 but beyond happy with this..I rarely shoot Macro. So not a huge minus

4So far, so good
By James Bass
This has been a reliable tripod for the two months I've had it. But time is the true test. It's heavy, which is what I wanted, because it is stable. No news is good news.

5Perfect studio tripod
By LovelyHead
The usual advice when buying a tripod is to consider three things - stability, portability and affordability - and then to choose any two of them. If you're considering the MT 9271, the two you have chosen are stability and affordability. The MT 9271 is big, even when folded, and heavy, 7.5 pounds with a decent head. It's a tripod to take with you on a planned shoot rather than a casual hike. Either that or it will be your studio tripod, as it is for me. In either case, you will probably want a second, less substantial tripod to use when travelling light. The payback for that bulk is stability and the MT 9271 is possibly Giotto's best in that regard (there is an even bigger MT 9281 but it isn't available anywhere). The 9271's legs have only three sections (the fewer the better) and twist locks. It might just be my imagination but twist locks somehow feel sturdier to me than lever locks. Finally, if you're after maximum rigidity, you'll know not to use the centre column on any tripod and you won't need to with this one. I'm 6 feet 3", yet this tripod - with legs fully extended and an MH 1300 ball head on top - places the camera a few inches above my eye level with the centre column down.Build quality is flawless. I've never owned a Gitzo but it's hard to imagine how Gitzo's quality could be any better than this. All in all, the MT 9271 is a great tripod, as long as its bulk suits your purposes.
