Good item, but another product is better

After a long search for a saftey rail that was tall enough to be five inches over my sons pillow top bed, I finally decided upon this safety rail because it had the padded bumper. I have no doubts about the strength of the saftey rail. It is made of solid metal bars. My son loves the pad with the pockets. He puts books in the pockets each night so he can look at them after he has supposed to go to sleep. The saftey rail will last through this son and any future children I have.Because my son almost fell out of his bed one night, I decided to purchase a second safety rail. Instead of going for this more expensive child safety rail with a pad, I chose to go with Standers Saftey rail without a pad (the adult verion) that has the exact same dimensions and roughly $20 to $25 cheaper.Looking at the two safety rails, there are two main differences that stand out. The lack of a pad does not matter. My wife just puts one of my sons teddy bears next to it and my son has not hit the rail yet.The first difference that concerns me is the strap that goes around the bed rail on the opposite side of the bed to keep the safety rail tight against the mattress. The strap that came on childs version of the saftey rail is smaller than an inch wide and the snap latch is just as small. When trying to tighten the rail against the mattress, the latch kept coming undone so I could not tighten it as much as I would like. The adult version of the saftey rail had a much wider strap and a much bigger latch. It felt much stronger and did not once come undone when tightening it.The second difference that concerns me is the pins that are used to hold the top part of the rail up, but can be released to lower the railing to change the sheets. The pins on the adult version are much easier for an adult to open. They slide in and out without any need for force. They also stay in the bar and cannot come out. The childs version of the rail has pins that are tight in the holes they go in. The pins can be pulled completely out of the railing system, and either lost or chewed upon by a child. You have to put your finger in a key ring loop to pull the pins out. Depending on how stuck the pin is, it will hurt your finger pulling the pins out.To end, while I have no concerns about the childs version lasting long into the future, I wish the pad had come on the adult version of the safety rail. If I had to do it all over again, I would purchase the adult version of the safety rail and either purchase or make a pad to fit.

Very solid and seems very well made and well designed. Easy to assemble and install and feels very solid once in place. Doesn't shift or feel like it's going to slide out or shift around. Definitely a good buy!
