Moderate satisfaction

I did like the case for longer rifles. But it only survived the airlines for two trips. Fortunately I wasn't carrying an heirloom. One latch was knocked off and the side panels caved in. The sides seem to be separate panels that aren't sturdily supported at the edges. The aluminum covering is not so much strength but shell for what looks to be a slate-like particle board. So, if you're carrying a $2,000 over-and-under, don't expect the airline to pay for the damage.

good item, very poorly packed

Plano 53 Aluminum Rifle Case arrived at my home packed only in it's flimsy display box not packed in a suitable shipping box as a reputable dealer would. Due to not packing the item properly resulted in two large dents in the case. The case itself works well and is of decent quality. I would not recommend purchasing anything from this particular supplier due to their inability to properly pack and ship an item. However I would recommend the case itself. It works well and looks good (except for the dents)!

Great basic case

Cases this long are not so easy to find. I needed one to transport an antique firearm my father collected in the Pacific during WW2, and I have used it as permanent storage for the weapon ever since. My product was received prompty with no damage. It was well packed in a custom cardboard box. The case made its single air travel trip and several car trips subsequently, without incident or dent (or any sign of wear for that matter).Foam inserts hold weapon very securely, and it is a long and heavy rifle. I felt very confident about the security of the contents during the airline trip, and my confidence was justified.Given the design of the rifle in the case, I did have to rotate the bolt lever 180 degress to get the lid shut without any binding or strain on the lid. Your rifle may not require this measure depending upon design.Weapon and bayonet (both in the case) attracted some freindly attention at airport security. The case is so long the airport security officers needed to do one end, and then the other, in the x-ray machine. The case got not a blink from these experienced shippers of weapons though - so I felt like I knew what I was doing.Highly recommended for long long guns.
