Great hat for those not wanting to look like beach bums
By Peter Buchy
As a bone marrow transplant recipient, I face the prospect of developing chronic graft vs. host disease whenever I'm in the sun. I can't live like a mole underground, but I need good sun protection. What I love about this hat, and the whole Tilley line, is that it's not a beach hat, like so many we see out there. This is a hat that you feel you can go anywhere in. Being made out of hemp, it's like, breathable, washable, and offers full protection.Plus, Tilley has great straight-shooter policies, if you lose your hat. Fantastic company.

SIMPLY THE BEST HATS I HAVE EVER OWNED.
By D. Blankenship
This review is really on two models of the Tilley Hemp Hat. The TH4 and the TH5. The hats I am reviewing are alike with the exception of the brim size. It should also be noted that the two hats I am reviewing are Moca in color and not white as shown in this product page. I am not sure what has happened, but the pictures here do not agree with those found in the current Tilley catalog.I have to admit that I own six Tilley hats. Over the years I have found that they are the most serviceable hats available on the market today, and their look suites my personal and particular taste in hats perfectly. More about the quality of these hats later....First, the difference in the TH4 and the TH5 is the size of the hat brim. The TH5 has a smaller and stiffer brim than the TH4. The TH4 has a brim that is quite large and quite floppy. It covers a lot of space and is a great hat for sun protection. I use the TH4 for canoeing and when I am on or near the water or when I know that I will be out in rainy weather. I personally am not fond of the wider brim, but I do find it useful. The hat I wear the most is the TH5. The brim is smaller and keeps its shape well. I can wear this hat for just about any activity, and in fact it looks quite good even in civilized environments such as cities, restraints, ballgames, etc. It, along with other Tilley hat models, are my hats of choice for most activities.I have normally never been a hat person but due to the fact that I spend a great amount of time outside, my physician and wife insist that I wear one and to get them off my back, I do so. Now it I truly have to keep my head covered I want something decent, serviceable, good looking and something that will last as long as I do; even longer in all probability. These needs of mine are more than covered by the hats manufactured and sold by this company. The workmanship that has gone into these hats is almost perfect. I have yet to find a flaw in the material, stitching or design. Folks, this is a very, very well made product. Now, the first thing that goes through a new buyer's mind is the cost of these things. Upon fort glance, they seem quite expensive and I suppose if you look at it a certain way, they are. But you have to stop and think about it. What other hat can I buy that is guaranteed for life? And not just my life...actually this hat will likely be around long after I am gone. I know for a fact that if the hat every wears out, it will be replaced...no questions asked. I have had two hats replaced this way over the years. Both times it was my fault...I abused the hats, or at least on one of them, my dog did the other one in, and these people replaced both of them. They also have a guarantee that if your hat is lost or stolen, they will replace it at half price. A friend of mind found that this guarantee is the absolute truth! If proper instructions are followed; simply instructions, I might add, the sizing is perfect. It should also be noted that this is a Canadian company. These hats are not out-sourced, but rather are manufactured in Canada by Canadians. I like that. I sort of like Canadians and it pleases me that the Tilley Company is sticking with its people. Perhaps some of our American manufactures should take note of this fact!As I travel around the country, it never ceases to amaze me how many people come out of the crowd and identify themselves as Tilley Hat owners, and I seldom go anywhere without receiving a compliment directed at any of these hats I wear. This is kind of neat.Don BlankenshipThe Ozarks

floppy brim
By P. Meyer
Nice in the sun but the brim is weak and flops up in light winds.
